Trust Funding

Trust funding is the process of transferring assets into a revocable living trust after the trust documents have been signed. This step is critical because a trust generally only controls the assets that are actually titled in its name or otherwise directed to it. Many people assume that signing a trust automatically completes the planning, when in reality the funding process is what makes the trust operational.

Without proper funding, assets may remain outside the trust and may still require probate or pass in ways that do not fully match the client’s plan. Trust funding can involve changing titles on bank or brokerage accounts, preparing deeds for real property, and reviewing beneficiary designations to make sure they coordinate with the overall estate plan. Because different types of assets require different steps, this part of the process can be easy to overlook without focused follow‑through.

Bosque Law Firm offers post‑signing trust funding services to help clients carry their plans through beyond document signing. The firm works with clients to identify which assets should be transferred, coordinate the necessary paperwork, and align titles and designations with the trust‑based plan. The goal is to help ensure that the trust is not just well drafted, but properly implemented so it can function as intended when needed.
